This is not another post about Covid-19, there is enough out there already. This is a post about travel..armchair travel, travel through our imagination to the setting, and places of our favourite or newly favourite stories.

For me picking up a book that engages my imagination, surrounds me in the sights and sounds described on the page, for others a wonderful movie, TV show or documentary transports them away. Below I have created a list of a couple of my favourite places, and the stories that I love and that I believe contain the power to take you there…

If you long for:

  • Paris France
  • Movie – Midnight in Paris
  • Book – The Elegance of the Hedgehog; Muriel Barbery
  • London England
  • Book – Mrs.Dalloway; Virginia Woolf
  • Movie: Notting Hill, Love Actually
  • Charlottetown PEI
  • Book – Anne of Green Gables: Lucy Maud Montgomery
  • Movie – Anne of Green Gables OR Anne with an E
  • Toronto Ontario
  • TV Show- Kim’s Convenience
  • Book- In the Skin of a Lion: Michael Ondaatje

Often we desire to travel to a fantastical place…

  • Hobbiton  Narnia
  • J.R.R. Tolkien: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (books and movies)
  • Hogwarts
  • J. R. Rowlings: The Harry Potter series (books and movies)
  • Narnia
  • C.S.Lewis: The Narnia series all the books, and the movies that have been made.

These are a few of my treasured tales…ones that I enjoy going back to and ‘visiting’ again and again. What are your favourite places, which stories whisk you back? Please share, while our world needs to cocoon to flatten the curve of the pandemic, we are free to engage our minds and imagination and soar…on an armchair journey!
